This can be applied to pretty much every cuss word. I really wonder how some words that mean the samethings as others can be "bad".

When I was a little kid, my stepmom used to scold me because I said darn and freaking. She'd say that those were substitutes for bad words... ._. How should I know? I was like 7!

I asked my grandma that, once.
She always said "God Darn It"
According to her ... the difference is "Damn" is condemning something for eternity, while "Darn" is fixing something. As in "darn a sock".
I just laughed, when she gave that explanation.
