+748 Deaf people must have been really excited with the invention of texting, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, but they use teletypes (TTY's) anyway.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

still...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, I know what you're saying. I'm just saying they still have no need for a cell phone. A TTY is basically a cell phone sized gadget used for sending each other messages like texts.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yea, but now they can talk to other people who dont have TTYs :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That is one way of looking at it.

No, she's right. I'm deaf (but oral) and 95% of my friends are hearing, and I've never owned a TTY/TDD. I always struggled to hear on the phone and it was a really big deal for me once texting became popular. Of course, that was right around the time I got a cochlear implant and was able to hear on the phone. But still, it makes my life so much easier.

wait you are deaf?? hah I am too :) people.. texting is not the best invention, pager is. I have an Iphone because i have the access to emails, texting, and web and everything else except for phone ha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yep I am :) With my cochlear implants I can use certain phones pretty well, so I had to test out some 20 phones before deciding on the LG EnV Touch, which has internet/email/text. I want the new iPhone though!
