I think with smart phones and data on phones becoming more common, texting might actually be replaced with more internet-based messaging (there's no need for a separate SMS service if both of you have Internet on your phone). I think of texting as an alternative to phone calling, not email.

I email my best friend these lengthy messages every now and then. I personally prefer emailing because you can write a lot more, but nobody I know really emails back. D:

...No... It's called He Says It, the Phone Copies It as It Sounds, and He Sends It as a Text. So for example, he tried saying "taxi" but because of his accent, the text he sent to me said "texi".

Because maybe he's in the car, and he also doesn't know English fabulously so it's kind of distracting trying to figure out how to spell one word or another. And don't even try saying "well taxi isn't exactly hard to spell" because then you're nitpicking and completely missing the point.

My phone has that but it is not worth using. For example: words spoken into it: "hey whats up?" phone translation: "head of peanutbutter?" It gets awkward sometimes.
