+540 It's ridiculous how grossly over-payed certain celebrities and athletes are. Oh, what's that? You can sing?! That's totally a reason for you to make 30 times my annual salary in a day! Oh, and you can throw a baseball too? Great, I'll pay you millions of dollars to do that, and only that! Amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

not even that. whats that? you can talk kinda fast and use autotune? here's a million dollars

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I love you haha.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I mean it is talent to be able to sing and play sports well, but it's only entertainment. And it's ridiculous they get paid more than a fireman or doctor, for example. They save lives

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well if a fireman wrote a memoir every time he saved a life and thousands of people bought it, he would probably make millions as well.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Famous people don't have to write memoirs to make millions.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know, but in my hypothesis, a memoir would be the equivalent of releasing a single or an album

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The thing is though, almost anyone can be trained to become a firefighter or policeman at a relatively low cost. But on the other hand, only a few people have what it takes to become an athlete or popular artist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This, exactly; the money these people make is directly proportionate to the revenue they generate for the people who pay them; it's as simple as that. I'm not saying it's right... but every time you go to/watch a game, pay for a concert ticket, buy a cd/band merch... I mean, anything related, you support the system.

If they make more than you, work to get a better job and quit whining.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(ya im in a frat): The president has a really important, better job, yet NFL football players are paid more than he is

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well of course. Do you think the president SHOULD be paid millions? Of ourse not. Then people would do it for the wrong reasons, you crazy moron.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They make money because they have a high rate of Marginal Revenue Productivity. If you went and learnt some basic economics you wouldn't make such ignorant statements

by Anonymous 13 years ago

their talent or in some cases lack there of contributes to a lot of job opportunities for people

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They dedicate their whole lives to sports, though. All day every day, that's what they do. It's anything but a normal life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The funny thing is that the post is meant to be sarcastic but it's exactly how economics works. People are more willing to pay to see a concert or sporting event than pay more taxes to fund people like firefighters and police officers. It's just a product of the selfishness in human nature. We'd rather pay someone to entertain us than to save another person's life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its not that we dont understand the economics of the situation...it just seems wrong to me that an athlete gets paid enough in a year to feed the starving population of a third world country for at least a year

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I heard that the amount of money Americans spend on ice cream each year could feed a third world county...I never want to eat ice cream again

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You not eating ice cream won't help the, genius.

The people that make millions in sports and entertainment are either the best or portrayed as the best in there profession. Also they make so much off endorments and if you have 80,000 people at a football game, spending on average $30 for their ticket, spending around $5 for food or shirts or anything, I mean it adds up to big bucks which go to the people that bring all those people to those events
