+534 we all know that person who has a "photography!" album on their facebook, and it's just crooked and/or blurry pictures of the sky, trees, flowers etc. that looks like they were taken on a cellphone. thats not photography, it requires actual skill and practice. amirite?

LMFAO. this is so fucking true. i complain about this all the time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

same here! haha. i have a really nice nikon, and i read photography books and i've been doing it for a while. some girl commented on my album (she was serious) "mines better, lol" and it matched the description above >:| lmao

by Anonymous 13 years ago

right?! same here! i payed good money for a nikon, and i actually learn about the camera and photography. other people just take a picture of a tree, edit it on picnik, and people are like "OMG so pretty. u shud b a fotographer!!" i literally cannot believe someone would actually say that to you, though. like... my mind is blown...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i swear, picnik is my enemy, so is myspace photo editor, >:/ lol. and her pictures had the date in the lower left corner. oh and text was all over them. edited on...PICNIK. *facepalm*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

HAHAHA i love that. Seriously, take a crappy picture, add an "inspirational" quote, and you STILL have a crappy picture- contrary to popular belief.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

OMG! you tinted your crappy quality picture of a bush pink and put lil wayne lyrics on it! you're so talented xD (no, thats really a pic of hers, lmfao xD)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hahahahahahhaha people just kill me. they really do.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i know, ugh, i was like "yeah, your's is a lot better than mine" and a bunch of people liked it, i think that means they get my sarcasm xD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not a photographer, but I recognize the skill. It's not simply going out, snapping a picture, and Colorsplashing it. You need to have a certain quality to it. A certain meaning. Like an unwritten story.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I edit pictures of myself but I don't have the nerve to call it photography. I do real photography pictures without edits, though. They look a helluva lot better than the ones I do with picnik.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I hate when people take pictures of themselves from a weird angle or something, edit the shit out of it, and call it photography. It's annoying as fuck.

A photograph is a picture, a photographer is someone who takes pictures, anyone who takes pictures if a photographer, they don't have to be good.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So anyone who writes (which encompasses 99% of human beings) should be considered a writer?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Anyone who writes is a writer, any one who paints is a painter, anyone who drives is a driver, anyone who kills is a killer, anyone who works is a worker. They are not necessarily good at whatever it is they do, but the do do it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No. You would never tell someone that you're a writer, simply because you have written something at some point in your life. That means that you write for a living. Saying "I'm a photographer" means you actually know how to take photos, not by just pointing and shooting. There is a very big difference.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You would say that you are a proffesional photographer. Writer is the noun form of the verb write. By definition, a writer is any person who partakes in the act of writing.

You must realize that the term "photographer" is implied to mean the profession. It's like gay is interpreted to mean homosexual, when the real meaning is happy. People still think of homosexual before happy. Same goes for photographer, cook, painter, writer, etc. etc. They're determined how they're implied. you don't hear "I'm a cook!" "Oh, so you cook dinner every night?"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well,yes I guess,but there's also proffesionals.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I actually have some friends who are AWESOME photographers and they do have albums named "photography". Leave people alone who do it, you may not know why they do that certain thing. Maybe it's their only way to get out of a shitty reality and into something they actually like.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree with this post so much!! Photography takes lots of skill (with maybe some natural talent) with at least a decent camera and a passion for it. I hate when fourteen year olds take pictures of random things like trees with their crappy 1.5 MP phone camera and freaking plaster it with edits from fotoflexer and put a crappy overly used quote on it. Yeah, THAT's photography...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't call myself a photographer even though I take pictures and actually develop the negative myself and make prints from it. Partially because I can only take pictures in my photography class and partially because of the negative connotation attached to "Photographer" now.
