Apparently, making a valid point in an argument with your parents is "talking back," amirite?

I KNOW, RIGHT!

Even when you're being respectful and logical. Seriously? It's unjustified.

It usually seems to end with 'Go clean your room'.

My grandmother used to say that ALL the time! Hell, even when I was answering a question she just asked me, I was ALWAYS accused of "talking back." Thanks for posting.

I sometimes get in trouble for 'giving my parents a dirty look'. It's incredibly stupid, because I'm not even freaking looking at them. This post is the story of my life.

Dude me too.

......This happened with my uncle. >_>- "YOU CAN TALK TO YOUR MOTHER LIKE THAT BUT NOT TO ME!!!!!"- All I had said was "I think this is a misunderstanding and you should hear my side of things before getting mad at me." Frick, that riled me up a bit XD...

Ugh! This is sooooo true!!!!

Me- Why can't I have a sleepover tonight?!
Mom- Because I said so
Me- Seriously?! Come on mom, give me one good reason why I can't!
Mom- I don't have to because I'm the mom.
Me- You don't have any reason!
Mom- Yes I do.
Me (in my head)- This is completely ridiculous.

oh god I hate that. Then whenever you get in trouble for no reason and ur parents r always rambling how u should speak up 4 urself and when u finally do u get in trouble.

This happens to me all the time! If I make a valid point in an argument, I'm always told that I'm 'talking back."
by Anonymous13 years ago
Amen to that!

That happened with me when I was living with my parents. If I made a valid point in an argument to my parents, aunts, or uncles, especially about moral or religious teachings, they would accuse me of talking back or being disrespectful. I do not like if parents of using the backtalk rule as a means of deluding children. Accusing your children of backtalking when they are giving a valid argument or telling their side of the story is delusion and denial of logic and denial of valid argument.
