Except for the fact that the Japanese alphabet doesn't have R's in it. They pronounce r's as l's. un

Then you'd know that Japanese doesn't have an "alphabet", it has a syllabary, and they also don't have the letter "L." The Japanese R sound is the closest to our L sound though, hence examples like that in the OP...
