I'm kinda at a loss for answering, because it really depends on the girl, and the guy shes with. If he is a gentleman, like he should be, he should be buying most of the things for her. But there are also valid points above about things a guy shouldn't buy for a girl. So it really depends on the lifestyle of both parties involved, and if its a single girl and a single guy, I'd bet the guy spends more on video games.

Xbox 360 games....i have over 2,000 dollars in them....i've had 2 xboxes and now have an elite. that's video games alone. i don't want to count the mac and monitor and speakers and ipods and phones....then again i'm a tech snob so it might just be me.

I would say it's about equal considering the total expenditure of every guy and girl. Girls need the little tag as much as the clothes themselves, but guys can get by on brandless without reducing self-esteem. Guys spend thousands of dollars in sports, video games and memorabilia of them, but the girls that do are few and far between. Guys are also expected to pay for movies, meals etc when on a date. We also have to consider income. Girls generally make less than guys for no apparent reason, so guys can afford more, but still buy a lot of jewelry and stuff for their GF/fiancee/wife. Overall, i think it comes out roughly equal, but girls' expenditure is more consistent, whereas guys' generally consist of individual expensive items.
