+636 If you live somewhere other than the U.S, you wonder if highschool there is really like what they portray in all the movies, with all the cliques, bullying, fighting, drama, and pregnant girls, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm going to high school next year. God I hope not.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Don't worry about. This may be true for some schools but not most. You should be in pretty good shape. Just remember, they're more scared of you than you are of them.* *that isn't exactly true but none the less

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I start high school tomorrow. FML. I seriously hope it's not as bad as middle school.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

High school is definitely better. Middle school is a hole :p

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Middle school is like getting raped in the face every day.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not to that extreme, no. God, no. x)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, the fighting, yeah. But cliques are usually exaggerated in movies.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Cliques and bullying are usually exaggerated but there is drama.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not. At all. Our 'popular kids' were actually pretty nice if you talked to them. It's middle school/junior high (how you say it depends on where you're from) that has all that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's exactly how it is at mine. There are people that try to make it like the movies but no one really likes them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I guess it all depends on location, location, location. Haha, a little real estate humor for ya ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There is only a little bit of drama occasionally and some cliques... but i go to an all-girls school :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are "cliques" in my school, but they're not 100% defined. Some are, like the "anime-freaks" and the "oh-we're-so-cool" kids during lunch, but there's not that much bullying, very few fights, a LOT of drama, little/no pregnancy, but the "popular" girls are bitches. So.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree, at my school, there was one pregnant girl last year, but some of the popular girls are mean, and as far as cliques go, they arent 100% defined, but the populars hang out with each other, and as do football players and band members are always together. But everybody has their own group of friends at my school.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Same here. I have a bunch of different friends. But some cliques are really defined.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Generally if you live in a big city then it is really like that but a little less exaggerated. Where I live there are definitely cliques but the bullying and fighting is much less extreme than in movies.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yea... it so is unfortunatly

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not as theatrical and entertaining as TV and movies make it look, unfortunately... just sad, shallow, and mean. I've never heard of a high school that didn't have some of all those negative elements.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ahah theres only like 5 pregnant girls at my school right now. And theres alot of foghting and drama and the cliques are so stupid, its like that but not so exaggerated.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*fighting.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, they happen at all high schools. You probably haven't experienced them. My school is notorious for all of those things. On youtube, when you type in my school, the first three pages are of fights. I didn't know they existed until I started talking to everyone. Drama and pregos go hand-in-hand. It definitely happens.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My high school wasn't as exaggerated with the cliques and bullying, but the drama? That happens no matter where you are. People, no matter who they are, start things. And my high school had an unusually high pregnancy rate. I think we have five freshmen get pregnant, not to mention the upperclassmen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In other countries, what is high school like then?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

in my high school (dominican republic) there aren't such defined cliques... Popular soccer players are in band, geeks play in varsity sports... My grade, at least, we all hang out together, regardless of where we're each from.... "Popular" girls are not bitches, at aalll!... The biggest type of bullying I've seen is mocking a kid about his mustache! There haas been the occasional drama, usually for guys... There isn't really much fighting, and I think there's only been 1 pregnant girl

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well... All right. In Finland, you go into 1st grade the year you turn seven, and the grades stay numbered until 9th, where I am now, which I think equals freshman year of high school, and then after 9th there's three years of lukio, which is basically high school. And I dunno about other schools, but our school is really calm, if that's the right word for it... No fights, there aren't really any cliques in my class, little or no drama, and I've never seen anyone pregnant at school. So yeah, pretty tame :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

dude my school is EXACTLY like this. like 100% stereotypical high school

by Anonymous 13 years ago

... that's scary. Over here only people who are sad, sad losers that LIKE imitating American high schools are the one who want that sort of drama. Otherwise everyone's pretty normal ... ... there's always drama, but not like preggo cliquey drama.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Are Canadian schools like Degrassi? :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Tell me what degrassi is like and I'll tell you aha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A lot of drama, bullying, sex, basically what the OP said.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Meh that all seems so stereotypical, maybe it's because I go to a catholic school, but there's mostly drama, never seen anybody pregnant, and nobody really bullies each other that's more elementary

by Anonymous 13 years ago

everything that can go wrong, does go wrong on degrassi. haha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

there is a lot of drama, and you will see pregnant girls walking around (we even have a nursery at my school, the pregnancy rate is so high), and there are a lot of cliques. but it isn't so bad, highschool is cool when you find the right people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My school is nothing like that. We are the anti-stereotype. There's no pregnancy, half of our "popular" kids are best friends with our "super nerds" and we're so unconcerned with sports (something that is usually very prominent in movies/TV) that two years ago we didn't even have a football team because not enough kids went out for it. But I guess nobody would want to watch a movie where the big once-in-a-blue-moon fight consists of two guys shoving each others shoulders and going "Dude!" "DUDE!" "You know what, man? I'm sorry." "I'm sorry, too."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

are you kidding me? I would watch that movie :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's what my high school was like.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i want to go to that highschool!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Um... there are hardly any cliques. They're just random groups of friends, no matter what they look like. I'm best friends with a booknerd, a partier, and an emo kid. O_o I dunno where I would fit in if there *were* cliques...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

in my high school it is like that without the pregnancy...i think....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in south africa and go to an all girls school...there are about 750 girls and it's pretty upperclass. most of the people are really really rich but no-one really judges, there are no pregnant girls but a lot of girls get abortions ...there are a lot of slutty girls but everyone pretty much gels. There are no cliques but there are a lot of groups and in my grade most of the asians and gaming 'never been kissed' nerds sit together. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My school (In Ohio) is basically like that..We've got some cliques. Definitely the pregnancy. My freshman year we had a bomb threat and a stabbing lot's of fights..It's pretty ridiculous for a highschool honestly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Mine was some cliques, lots of drama, a fairly large amount of bullying, multiple fights daily and lots of pregnancy

by Anonymous 13 years ago

LOL Degrassi

by Anonymous 13 years ago

no it's not... at all. at most schools at least

by Anonymous 13 years ago

At my school, there's fighting, drama, and like, 1 pregnant girl. Just to be clear, what kind of drama are you talking about? I mean, everyone has some sort of drama, even if it's tiny.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha when i was growing up in Europe i was dreaming of those cool big, yellow buses that had a lotta room inside like in Hey Arnold also the really cool pencil sharpener that you put your pencil inside and spin, like on Spongebob :3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I hate school buses. They're definitely not all that roomy! Pretty cramped actually. I'm so glad I can drive now!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The only time I see "cliques" are at lunch and in the courtyards, but for the most part everybody just hangs where they want. We don't have bullying too much at school, but we have at least 4-7 fights in every grade a year. I am in my last year of middle school in Texas. And no, I dont go to a school with less than 200 kids, more like...about 670 kids. High school has like 3,000 kids or more.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

30 some pregnant girls, atleast 1-2 big fights a year...in nebraska. the cliques become more defined as the years go on and drama is small between small friend groups

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I started high school monday. Is not that bad, and to a surprise, I actually LIKE it. Wow. Its nothing like middle school. Theyres a couple of pregnant girls, bullying so far NONE, cliques? Yea but just groups of friends is not like popular, bullies, jocks nothing like that. And they're is fighting but not all hardcore just stupid fighting. High school is NOT even close to tv high school. Well so far..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's hilarious actually, I mean I come from a really small country town in California, and it is NOTHING like that at all, maybe the middle school is, but definitely not the high school. The worst *crimes* or whatever we have is some bathroom graffiti (real mellow and some drama here and there (mostly between the girls rather than the guys)) and it's really spread out. I have to say it's hilarious when you see the wanna be gangster/goths with black clothes, gauges in their ears, and the whole shebang, politely open the door for some elderly person and ask her how she's doing and hopes she has a nice day. It's like everything and everybody just mellows out in high school, and all the troubling kids vanish, and this is in a high school of 600, so it's pretty amazing. I had a friend who just moved to a huge 2000+ school near LA from here, and she hasn't had any problems at all, so I'd say it's pretty relaxed all the way across the board.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Which is why I'm afraid to move back to the states.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I actually do wonder that all the time!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I did. That's why I was so terrified about moving to the US. But it's really nothing like what I saw in those movies, I actually like it better here!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

At my high school, fights start just by looking at someone'

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm asian and believe it or not, Cliques exist in my school. My classmate is 16 and she just gave birth. There's a hell lot of stupid drama. And don't get me started on the fighting.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

16 doesn't sound so bad when there's a 14 year old in my math class who is pregnant.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The cliques were MUCH worse at my middle school than they are now that I'm in high school. My high school has 1400 students, so it's easy to just avoid people we don't like. All the drama is usually in-fighting within a group of friends. I know of two pregnant students this year, and one went to the tech center, not the actual high school. When I went to school for two days in Germany last year, it actually scared me more. A fight broke out in the middle of class and the teacher screamed at them in German, but swore in English. We also had to read a book about US runaways that all had HIV and were messed up and made Americans look bad. :
