for all you idiots who think ballet isnt a sport, please remember that many famous atheletes have done and do ballet to improve their performance. many of them find it to difficult.

Famous athletes have done a lot of things to improve performance... Such as Yoga, marijuana, or steroids...
Just because it helps prepare for sports doesn't make it a sport...
also there's no such thing as an awesome ginger, ever.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I don't think you understand the reference being made by totallyawesomeginger. and yes. Gingers are totally awesome. So there.

Anything physically demanding is a sport, because the definition of a sport is something that's physically demanding.
...

Ballet is an art form, not a sport. A sport requires competition between at least two people/teams, with a winner and a loser(s). Ballet on the other hand, while very physically demanding, is a form of expression, like music or painting.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I compete ballet. Most competitions invlove at least fifty dancers. Some win and some lose. I see what you're getting at, but I believe it qualifies as a sport.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yeah, you totally compete in Ballet. Does this Lewis kid think we just lay there until the director casts us in what ever roles he wants? That we don't work our asses off to be better than everyone else so we can get the role we want? Yeah, you loose when the director casts someone else in the role you worked all semester/summer/year/dancing career to get.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Exactly! Oh, Red Vines, What the hell can't you do?
by Anonymous13 years ago
You mean like tryouts? Do you think American Idol means that singing qualifies as a sport?
by Anonymous13 years ago
According to what you said "A sport requires competition between at least two people/teams, with a winner and a loser(s)." Yeah, I'd say so. However, I know that's not what you mean. Really, I shouldn't've said anything. I just wrote a paper on this, actually. How it's undefined, and how there really isn't any way I can convince you otherwise. I mean, it's both, if you ask me. When some one asks me if I do a sport, I usually reply "Yeah, I dance." However, it's definitely an art as well. I think we should agree to disagree, because we can't convince you, only you can convince you.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Damn. I suck at convincing myself.

ballet has all the athletic difficult of a sport, if not more, but it is definitely an arrt.

what the heck, anonymous? thats definately what the other anonymous said.
by Anonymous13 years ago
My sister does Ballet, and she's a lot stronger than me.

If anything physically demanding
is a sport, that would be like saying gardening
or giving birth is a sport.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Anything physically demanding that competes.
by Anonymous13 years ago
gardeners compete. they can enter their plants in a competition, no?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yes, but Thats more physical exertiona, and then showing off of the result. In dance, the hard work itself is what's enetered into the competition, not the afterproduct. If gardening were considered a sport in this way, it would be the actual gardening being scored, no the plants,
by Anonymous13 years ago
I know that ballet is incredibly physically demanding and has difficult competitions, but it's a more of a fine art than a sport.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Ballet is an art, not a sport.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I think it's more of an art rather than a sport, like MobyRichard and Anonymous said. Sports are more rough, if you know what I mean. Not harder, but not refined and pretty, like ballet, making it an art.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Ballet, though it is physically exerting isn't a sport. dancing is not a sport.it's art.
by Anonymous13 years ago
ballet is an art, but a sport too. for all u haters out there, i want you to try ballet classes 7 days a week with rehesals. id like to see you try to work our way to 1st place at multiple competitions. then u can talk. if u've never done it, you have no right to talk about if it's a sport or not.
