At my school, if not others, they handle the schedules of the students.

yea she made my schedule awesome

My school counselor helped me with my schedule, and guided me when choosing between post secondary schools

Every student in our school has to have a meeting with their counselor and discuss what they want to be when they graduate. When I told her doctor she smiled at me and said, "aww that's sweet, but let's try to find something a bit more realistic". I get straight A's. Bitch.

She could be referring to the fact that there are a lot of people who aim to become doctors - harder to get accepted into schools?

*Middle* school counselors don't do anything. My friend went to them to get some help for another friend who was cutting, and they did absolutely nothing. And she was pretty good friends with the counselors since she did Peacemakers with them. I can't even imagine what would happen if a kid they didn't know asked them for help. High school counselors are a lot better though. They're more like career advisors than counselors though, although they're very good at both at my school.

yeah same here, my high school counselor was really great-- he helped me choose my schedule and apply for college and look for scholarships and stuff.

Yes they do, mmmkay?

Freshman year I was doing a lot of drugs and stuff and not going to class, aka failing. Except I would go on test days and got no lower than b's on everything and tested above average in all the state testing... Yet the counselor thought taking me out of my core classes and putting me in 'special' classes was what I needed.... Then when my mom wanted me to go on independent study the counselor said no I should go to the continuation school with all the druggies preggos and gangsters... Yeah. Great counselor.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Uhh, weren't you one of the druggies though?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But being around loads of other druggies wouldn't exactly make them stop, would it?

No way! My mom's a high school coulnselor, and she does so much work, she stays hours after the kids leave and STILL brings home work. Don't tell me she doesn't do anything.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe your mom does do stuff, but some counselors in different schools don't do anything.

At that point I turned my shit around but I my parents wanted me away from my old friends since that's who I was doin shit with. So the continuation school woulda been a huge no. I eventually did go on independent study. After failing almost 2 entire years of highschool I caught up and graduated early. Sukkit fhs!

It depends on the counselor, cause at the school's I went to they did nothing. The teachers did more, at this time I was suffering with extreme depression and they counselor told me to "smile and everything would be alright".

My school's counselors do nothing. When I got my junior year schedule earlier this summer, I was missing a class, so I went to talk to them. They put me in a class I didn't want to be in so that I would have a complete schedule. I don't even know if they've done anything to put me in the class I want to be in (I doubt it).

Ya our school counselers have more problems than the students do.

I'm very pleased to know that my counselor has retired a couple of years early, and now I have a cool one who happens to have a furry moustache on his monitor. :)

In middle school I had anxiety disorder and I finally couldn't take it anymore so I went to my counseler and her exact words were "You just need to chill out. Why don't you go back to class now."
