+300 Instead of making an Australian character, why didn't House just ket Hugh Laurie keep his accent? amirite?

The guy who created House wanted him to be an American actor, a "quintessentially American person", and when Hugh Laurie was cast as House, the creator didn't even know he was British, not American. When Chase came on the show, the actor Jesse Spencer (who is Australian) persuaded the producers to make his character an Aussie. Chase wasn't originally going to be Australian.

British accent is not equal to Australian

Because Hugh Laurie isn't australian....?

But they could have just had him be British. I don't think it was important to the plot that he be Australian.
