+495 As much as you love more currently popular musicals, it bothers you when people think they are the only musicals out there. Knowing "Defying Gravity" is not the same as knowing musicals, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lol I don't even know what Defying Gravity is

by Anonymous 13 years ago

YES. Thank yooouuu...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wicked is great, but the popularity killed it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Popular musicals are awesome, but more obscure musicals need love too!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A bit of Bare: A pop opera anyone? Spring awakening, next to normal, I'm loving them yet only a few people I know have heard of them :(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(george berger): I know those! Next to Normals my fave(: Alice Ripleys awesome, and I can't wait to see her on tour! Spring Awakening's amazing too(: My Junk is always stuck in my head!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(george berger): You just named three of my favourite musicals ever. You win.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(george berger): I love Spring Awakening, never seen it though,

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@476552 (george berger): Spring awakening is becoming more and more popular. I'm not sure how popular it will become though because it isn't exactly family friendly, but I know some people obsessed with it. I hear things about next to normal too, but not as much.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(George berger): I adore Spring Awakening.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm so jealous! Alice Ripley is fierce (hey, have you listened to [title of show]?) but since I live in England the only experience of the shoe I have is my CD </3 And my yummy yummy pictures of Aaron Tveit! My junk <3<3 first SA song I heard, got me hooked!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(george berger): OHMYGOD. I love [title of show] "Alice Ripley is fierce, whoa, that's the first time I've said fierce. Thats't the second!" I have the cd also. Never saw the show. But one of my favorite songs is Die, Vampire Die. Especially since I hate vampires. Ickkk.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@476653 (george berger): DUDEEE [title of show] ftw! i've only had the experience of it on cd too, but it would be so cool! Aaron Tveit is delishhh(:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People who know I like shows come up to me and express their love of Wicked, Rent, etc to me (all of which I LOVE, by the way), but fail to see the BIG DEAL about my having been in Les Mis! I feel your pain<3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm honoured :') Bare is the best though, sucks cause no ones heard of it </3 What about Hair? xo

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(george berger): I like Hair.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(george berger): Of course I know Hair :) I honestly find it a little stranger when people DON'T know these things lol.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(george berger): Bare is amazing. The studio recording is what I'm guessing you've heard, and Matt Doyle (Peter) is awesome. And I haven't actually listened to a lot of Hair.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I absolutely LOVE musicals, alls orts, only ever seen two live though, Blood Brothers and RENT, The thing is, my friends don't like musicals at all but when Glee came out they kept singing Defying Gravity and stuff and in my opinion they KILLED Defying Gravity, Plus I'm doing Performing Arts in college in two week, so excited! yet scared 'cause I'm not a very good singer. Eek

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It make me wanna punch someone when they sang Defying Gravity on Glee. And I hate when people say "Rachel Berry's "Don't Rain On My Parade" was SOOO much better than that Barbra persons" Puh-lease, Streisand is a legend. I love Glee, I really do. But some songs are just not nessesary.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ok, as much as I love glee (not as much as a lot of people but still) How on earth can you compare Rachel to BARBRA STRISAND!!! you could hear how much Lea Michelle was tring to make her's stand out, partly because if she sang it more similar it wold have paled even MORE by comparison!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I hundred percent agree, I like Glee but sometimes, I hate their versions of songs. There's a variety to from the greats like Streisand and Wicked to really small stuff like Safety Dance, I was so geekly upset. Then again, you have ato have a variety and you're not gonna always like every song, unless you're a die hard fan.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just you and I, defying gravity! With you and I defy--- Okay, I'm sorry.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've only seen it 3 times ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Blood Brothers <3 <3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(george berger): first musical I saw, absolutely amazing! Happy it was my first.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@476674 Lovelovelove <3 Broadway/west end revival kicks arse <3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I saw it with my school, last year for my exam and loved it :D Okay, having to write about a musical after seeing it sucks but it was still cool <3 @476657 Matt Doyle owns my soul. Well, he would if I were a guy. And Wesley Taylor. Gah. Hair is brilliant, definitely worth a listen :D (happy coincidence, first time I saw it was with my friend Cameron ^_^) xo

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I mean @476690 =S

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I saw it with school too! my set wasn't studying Blood brothers though, we were doing Under Milk Wood so when I saw that a class was going to see it I had to go with! really? I thought it would have been easier and funnier to write about it later in the exam,e asier to study anyway. Nevermind, everyone's different hehe..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, maybe i just didn't dig the 2000 word essay ;) I'm having quite a nice conversation here, I wish I'd used my account </3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(george berger): That, is a good point. So am I, oh I love it when I see something I'm passionate about and then get all geeky fangirl about it. It's so sad but I embrace it, haha. Ah nevermind, we can still talk. :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

:D Yay late night conversations! So I haven't seen RENT live, what was it like? (Who did you see?) *Logs in as ClaudeHooper* :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(george berger): I LOVED it; I saw it a year and a half ago and haven't watched the movie since, because it completely farts all over Jonathan Larson's work. And I saw the final tour cast with Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal <333

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(george berger): Well sadly it wasn't a proffesional cast just a really good performing arts group but that didn't mean it sucked! It was amazing, the acting was beautiful, especially Angel! Other then that I've only seen it on DVD, my parent's aren't into musicals that much so I have to go myself. (: haha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Like when they mashed up Hair and Beyonce! I don't know what they were thinking, I really don't :$ x

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I feel like all people know are wicked and le mis. I answer a lot on yahoo answers in the theater and acting section. When someone asks for an audition song they either get "wicked and le mis!!!" or "Don't you dare do wicked or le mis they are so overdone and will kill you!" Some people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A lot of people (sadly) DON'T know Les Mis, and if they do they don't "get" it. It's unfortunate, really.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I went through like a 2 year phase in high school where I was obsessed with musicals. Light in the Piazza is one of my favorites

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, I listen to showtunes exclusively and when other people claim that they are "obsessed with showtunes" but really only get all squealy about Wicked, Rent, and 13, it makes me sick. Sure, they're great musicals, but there are a lot of other ones that are just as good, if not as mainstream. My favorites include In the Heights, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Legally Blonde, Suessical, etc. And in support of an earlier comment: Sutton Foster rules!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I listen to showtunes exclusively as well =] except for a few bands here and there. And where I'm from, they don't get as "unpopular" as 13! Everyone knows Wicked and Mamma Mia and Rent (movie) and that's IT. Oh, and they know the "Susan Boyle song" *bounds head repeatedly against copy of Les Miserables...the novel*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm kinda glad that where I live, no one really knows any musicals. Well I mean they all know Hairspray, a little Wicked (if they haven't seen the show, only expect them to know Defying Gravity and ughh Popular.) Enchanted, etc. No one really knows 13 except for a handful of teens.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm kinda lucky, cause I can honestly say only two other girls around me know musicals the way I do. The ups of that are that I have no difficulty looking for an "original" audition song ("My Strongest Suit" gets away with being "original"), but the biggest down is that I look like the fool when a simple, everyday phrase like "at the end of the day" has me humming, even though I don't really mind. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dude. I love My Strongest Suit. But I cannot belt the way Sherie Rene Scott can. :( To a lot of people, all of my audition songs are "original" also. They always sing Taylor Swift or some popular song on the radio. It is kind of annoying when you're singing/humming a song but NO ONE knows that the show even exists and they look at you like a loon.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That happens to me all the time! And I'm not sure about "My Strongest Suit" because I don't know which part I'd sing. But I know for "Astonishing," I'd start with either "I'll find my way..." or "Here I go/And there's no turning back..." and I can sing that for sure :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I guess the reason I complain about everyone only caring about 13 is that I'm a teenager and it is VERY popular among the teenage crowd. I think it's good, but not great.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Next to Normal FTW!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Favorites: Spring Awakening, American Idiot: The Musical, All Shook Up, Tommy. Of course, I do love the better-known ones, too (I'm on a major Mamma Mia! kick right now), but I agree - if you're going to try to impress me with your knowledge of musical theatre, PLEASE don't mention Wicked or RENT.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Spring Awakening <3 I've only heard the recording of American Idiot, as I live in completely the wrong country to see it, but the music is absolutely beautiful, in a different way to the original GD album =) I'll admit I like RENT but it's second to lesser known stuff like 13, Bare, Next to Normal, [tos] etc. =) x

by Anonymous 13 years ago

THERE ARE THEATRE PEOPLE ON AMIRITE.NET?!?!?! This makes me super happy. I just finished doing Sweeney Todd, playing the Judge, and next I'm in the world premiere of a new musical called "Hello! My Baby!" If anyone wants to talk theatre, add me :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I love me some Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal oh! And Aaron Tveit. Mmm :) Hair, Wicked, and Next to Normal are all playing in DC 2011 and I want to go but if it isn't 'african-American hertitage' my family doesn't want to see it. In other news, just got back from Avenue Q. I feel like I almost lost my virginity but not quite...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh God, I love Aaron Tveit (he's my future husband, dontcha know!) Haha, Avenue Q is brilliant; The internet is for porn!!
