We as a society are a lot closer to giving gay rights than ending world hunger or other things if similar nature.

I could be wrong, but I've always assumed same sex relationships would be easier because they have a lot more in common

Maybe, but only 1 in 10 people are gay (or some small number like that), so it'd be a lot more difficult to find someone who'd be attracted to you, that you'd also be attracted to. So I'd say that would balance out whatever advantages there'd be. :P Also, people of the same gender could still have totally different personalities and interests, so they might not have that much in common.

Notice the "sometimes". I think the OP means when having problems with your boyfriend/girlfriend. Althought not much would change, you'd just have other problems with your girlfriend/boyfriend.
