+222 Why doesn't the gay community create a religion of their own in which they can marry the same sex so the government can't interfere, amirite?

This is actually the main problem: the line between marriage the religious rite and marriage the civil partnership is so blurry it may as well not exist.

It really annoys me when people say 'Gays should have the RIGHT to get married.' Because marriage is a CHRISTIAN thing, and yes I know people who aren't Christian do still get married, but why should two men or women get married in a Christian church? I'm not saying Christianity should be against gay people, but it is written in the bible. Seems kind of unfair to fight against people's beliefs.

And no one is saying they have to get married in a christian church. Not everyone who gets married is christian, and they do not get married in a christian church. They just want the same rights as hetrosexual couples.

1) people believed in God before Jesus came around.. The religion centeres its teachings on the GOD not the man. The man came about 3/4 of the way through, hence the old and new testements. just to settle that little shananigan. 2) marriage is practiced in several different religions, Christians simply have a very specific way of it being carried out (ex, in a church, with a pastor/priest, man + woman,no sex etc. etc.), Christians aren't, and shouldn't be the only people allowed to get married. 3) gay is not a RELIGION, and shouldn't have to be. being gay is no more part of your religious beliefs than preffering apple pie to cherry is. 4) that wouldn't work because then religions or cults who beleive in polygamous marriage would have to have the right to marry more than one person, because it's in their religion.

*ahem.. * and 5) gay people should be allowed to be married... just had to throw that in there..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just because a religion allows something doesn't mean the government can't interfere. Polygamy was outlawed.

Separation of church and state. bottom line, religion LEGALLY shouldn't be the reason gays can't marry. its unconstitutional.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(bedbugs!): Exactly. I can't understand why people always bring religion into it, since we SUPPOSEDLY have separation of church and state. :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ok so your saying that marrige is not a christian thing?? well just so you know the christian bible includes the old testament which starts at the begining christanity didnt start when jesus was born that was just the climax of the religion. but i think that gay marrige should be allowed because your right that it is unconstitutional to prohibit it. but maybe gay divorce should not be allowed so that only people who are rlly serious about each other will get married.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I sorta almost agree with you. You can't say that gay divorce should not be allowed so only serious people would get married. There are so many man to women marriages that arn't serious. Why should gays have to be serious when the rest of the people getting married don't have to be?

@597654: I never said anything about it being a christian thing or not. I said its unconstitutional. The constitution clearly says there is a separation of church and state. Meaning a law cannot but made or broken on a religious standard. Anyways. You think gays shouldn't be able to divorce? That's the dumbest most ignorant shit I've ever heard. Do you know how many marriages end in divorce? I'm not gonna look up the exact number right now but its over half. So wtf is your logic behind that? People change. You fall out of love. Life fucking happens. Dumbshit.

The Bible was also written by 4 different people roughly 40 years after Jesus had died, so it probably shouldn't be taken exactly word for word.

"the christian bible includes the old testament which starts at the begining christanity didnt start when jesus was born that was just the climax of the religion" LOLLLLLL. This is seriously the dumbest thing I've ever heard xD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because there are very religious gays already. One of my best friends is a lesbian and ultra christian.

About the bible thing, it was written a long time ago! Aren't we supposed to be focusing on the lessons it should teach us and not the specifics? I'm catholic and support gay marriage, the bible is supposed to be a model of the kind of people we should be. Not an excuse to to not let gay people ge married. And thank comment #597782! My exact point!
