+263 People need to learn the difference between racist generalists who don't want a mosque just because it's a place where Muslims worship and people who don't want a mosque because they don't want anything near Ground Zero, amirite?

I agree with you, but the latter group didn't give a damn about the 10 strip clubs, 11 bars, and the off track gambling office that are also within two blocks of GZ. Also, the proposed center won't even be visible from GZ and vice versa. Those people also didn't give a damn about the mosques in the Pentagon, which was also attacked on 9/11.

That shows how fucked up our country is :/ I did care, but there are a bunch of people didn't have any idea about that.

But the pentagon wasn't obliterated

By not wanting a mosque close to ground zero, arent you GENERALIZING all Muslims to be terrorists?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, you're completely missing the point.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If they don't want anything near Ground Zero they should care about everything else that's there.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But to what extent?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(Chauncy Pickles): To the extent that if the only thing you object to being by Ground Zero is a mosque, then there isn't any difference.

I personally think that it is an insult to the memory of those who perished on 9/11 as well as to their families to erect what is, for better or for worse, a symbol of terrorists to many people in North America so close to where the World Trade Centers once stood. Go ahead and disagree, that's merely my opinion.

You've got to be kidding. What about all the other terrorists? such as the white, black, hispanic and plenty of other races' terrorists? and The mosque was there BEFORE 9/11!! All it was, was adding on a daycare center, a gym, and a few other facilities.

Once I had some apple pie. I didn't like it very much. I thought the apple chunks were too lumpy and too hot. Then I realized... I wasn't eating an apple pie! I was eating an empanada!

I'm sorry if anyone reading this lost any family members, but it's completely unfair to deny Muslims the right to have a mosque in their neighborhood simply because a group of extremists used that religion to justify violence.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree with you, but with adding another group. Like it or not, from past terrorists like the ones from 9/11, people now associate Muslims with terrorists. I'm not saying that all terrorists are Muslims, nor are all Muslims terrorists, it's just what people think now. So, putting a mosque near ground zero is like a slap in the face and disrespectful to some people who lost their loved ones there.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There isn't much of a difference. They're both ignorant idiots.

What I don't understand is the persistence to build it there. If so many people care so much, why can't they just be like "Hey, wait a minute, people are sending us death threats. It'd probably be a good idea to move our shit" and then look, problem solved.

I think there shouldn't be any type of religious anything there: Muslim or otherwise. Because it causes these types of problems. If anything, there should just be the memorial and that's it.
