+587 Ring around the rosie. A pocket full of posies. Ashes, ashes, we all die of a mysterious illness that's killed all of Europe and parts of Asia, what the hell is going on, it's the end of days! amirite?

That was my favorite song in kindergarten. And then I found out what it meant when I got older. Totally killed any fond memories.

I know right?! I found out what it meant in 7th grade and I was like oooh.

It didn't kill all of Europe...

well duh, I believe the proper statistic was 1/3 of europe's population. But from the perspective of the medieval european, if one of every three person is dropping dead, it probably seemed that EVERYONE is dying, hence the "end of days" theory. :)

Bubonic plague!

The second bit is 'atishoo, atishoo' anyways for sneezing.

Actually, that's an inaccurate myth. There's no reason to believe the nursery rhyme is related to the bubonic plague. http://www.snopes.com/language/literary/rosie.asp
