If I had to type in the dark i'm pretty sure it would come out with more letters than it should, not less.

No way'd this because it was stupid. Being in the dark should not make you skip letters and hit others twice. Typos from typing in the dark usually result from your fingers not being on home row when you think they are or having all your fingers a letter to the left or right of where you want them to be.

Most keyboards usually have a little bump on the F and J keys so you know where your fingers are anyway.

Not only can most people type without looking, the computer screen is lit and so it a) gives off light for you to see and b) allows you to see what you're typing so you know whether you've made a mistake.

well my monitor lets me see what I am typing so even if i didn't know how to type, i could guess and check.
