We wouldn't have religion if we didn't have fear, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
No, we wouldn't have ever had religion if we had no imagination. Religion is, in a way, a representation of the supposed line between man and beast. To choose to discard religion: going back to the beasts or ascending to another level in humanity? Personally, I don't care either way, but it is something to think about.

No we wouldn't have religion if we didn't have LOVE
by Anonymous13 years ago
Religion for sure is NOT about love.
Religion is what man created to explain the unknown, simple as that.
And there is a part of the brain that controls religion, it isn't all society created.

Religion was started when humans began wondering about where the dead would go after life. It wouldn't exist if we wouldn't die.
by Anonymous13 years ago
i think that's what he is saying. because if there is no fear, there is no fear of death, and no need to wonder about what happens after death.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well it's not necisary the fear of death, just the confrontation with it. Maybe it's fear, but we'll never know how they felt about death back then.

Wonder how long until Scrantoncity shows up.

^^Or his much-funnier doppelganger.
This post is true, though... basically all any religion has ever done is offer answers to questions about things people are scared of, like weather, pain, and death. I don't really understand why people would rather have *any* answer, no matter how unlikely or specious, than accept there are things we can't explain yet... the unknown is simply not that disturbing to me.

You don't understand why people accept arbitrary answers? That's because they aren't. The unknown is not disturbing to those of us who are religious either. You can't comfort fears with made-up answers.

We wouldn't have religion if we DID have truth, and answers.
by Anonymous13 years ago
... that was a very contradictory thing you just said, although I'm sure you don't see it that way. Just fyi- answers that don't come with proof are by definition made-up. Where else would they come from?

I was replying to the first version of your comment... before you put the word "arbitrary" in my mouth. I said "unlikely and specious"(such as virgin birth and putting all the species in the world on one boat)... neither of those words are synonymous with "arbitrary". Check a dictionary before you argue with people.
