It's offensive that the determining gene for the male sex is called "SRY," amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I would just call that ironic.

irony: Noun
1.
the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning.
By mentioning irony here you are either misusing the word irony or making a sexist statement designed to make women seem inferior to men. Doing BOTH of those will get you murdered on this site, so I pity you, poor anon.

Actually when a girl is being sexist they will usually not get "murdered" that much cause there are not that many boys on the site... but yes this anon is pretty dumb.

Double standards ayeee

Well, yeah... I also think it has something to do with how young they are (even though you're supposed to be at least 16 to be on this site) 12 to 16 year old girls almost seem to still be in the stage where you think boys have "cooties" and stuff like that.

...but it's not. The code for the male gene in the 23rd chromosome, which determines sex, is XY. Females is XX.

I think op is talking about fruit flies.
by Anonymous13 years ago
No. Chromosome =/= Gene. A chromosome is a strand of DNA containing many genes. The genes in your DNA hold the information for passing on traits. There is a certain gene called the SRY (Sex-determining Region Y) that, in the very early stages, affects which gender.
