+189 Women only want equal rights when it's convenient for them, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Isn't that the same for every race/gender/creed?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

For those who're voting no: can you please start campaigning for equal rights in court as for child custody cases and can you please stop laughing when a man is raped/hit by a woman? The hypocrisies of feminism are astounding.

No one laughs when a man is abused by a woman. You shouldn't make blanket statements like that. I only voted No Way because some men seem to think that it's okay to postpone the furthering of equality because there are a few women who perhaps take advantage of their motherhood or of their womanhood to extract favours from people.

I seek equality and am not sure why you disbelieve I do. And I do actually believe many women find physical abuse towards men hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rkl_oLSKQc

Call me pretentious, but I don't consider people like that to be real feminists. Same with those who hate on men. In my opinion, true feminism is about equality, ie: a man is not a pussy if he cries, and a woman is not a slut if she sleeps around. It also means that I would sign up for the selective services. I don't want to, but then again, who does? And I will also pay for my own dinner. I guess my point is: I voted no way and I am campaigning for equal rights, on all fronts. You, on the other hand, can feel free to continue to sit around and insult us while we stand up for your whining, ungrateful ass.

Wait so what's a slut then ?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

A social construct created to shame women for their sexuality.

Err, I don't sit around and whine. I campaign for equal rights too. I was just exposing a few examples of the so-called "patriarchal" society which actually harms men more. Another problem of feminism is that there are way too many definitions for it. It's great that you have that definition and actually want equal rights. But a lot of feminists either say they want equality and campaign solely for women-related issues or are "radical feminists" and actively discriminate and oppress anyone who had the misfortune of being born with a penis instead of a vagina. Also, saying you campaign for equal rights as if I don't and that I seem to be a lazy ass for which you can't provide any proof.... I am an egalitarian, but not a feminist because I disagree with most of feminism. Feminism: the idea that you can fix the problems of both genders by solely focusing on one. (The name itself, "feminism", kind of implies that.) That's like if white people decides to start making an equal rights campaign under the name "whitism" and only focused on caucasians.

Pay for your own dinner? I'm still waiting on an invite from a woman to buy my meal. Silly girls. Women are equals.

I'm with Apple_Pie. If women weren't still getting the short end of the stick on MOST things, I wouldn't be complaining. The fact of the matter is, men still get payed more for the same job. Women are MORE LIKELY to get raped. Really, who the hell laughs at a man getting raped? That's just fucked up. I think you've got your facts wrong, but you have a decent point. The problem is it isn't truly equal yet. I do wish child custody was more balanced, but I think there are more frequent issues we need to deal with first.

Men don't get paid more for the same job (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwogDPh-Sow&feature=player_embedded). In fact, in some age groups women earn much more than men in the same jobs working the same hours. (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/young-women-now-earn-more-than-men-2364675.html) And I've seen many women laugh at that, mainly because they're not "real men" and that women "showed him how it's done", which is blatantly sexist and hypocritical. I don't see how you say child custody cases aren't important. That is one of the main reasons why men don't marry nowadays. In a regular marriage nowadays it goes like this: they're happy and marry, they have a honeymoon and tons of sex, they have kids, they divorce (in which women initiate most cases), the woman keeps the kids and the father has to pay alimony to the woman until the kid is 18 regardless of if the woman actually earns more. If that's not blatant discrimination towards a specific social group, then I don't know what is.

I expressed myself poorly, I don't think child custody cases are unimportant, I just think that other things are more important. I personally am for pre-nups. I also hope that the parents would have what's best in mind for their child, so even if the court decides the mother gets full costody they can work it out. I understand this isn't always the case, but it happens. That video is the first thing I've seen that shows men earning less than women for the same job. I've heard from many sources that it was the other way around. Even in my own life, a newly-hired man fresh out of colledge was hired in for more than my aunt who has worked at her job for many years and has a lot of experience. It was the same job. There was also an article in my local paper about a bunch of people with government jobs who had been fired. It had how much they all made on it, and the men were getting payed a lot more for basically the same job. As for the mocking men, I haven't really seen that, but I don't doubt it happens. I would NEVER do that. I just want equality. We're getting pretty good here in America, which is great. But globally, women are still oppressed.

Feminism is sexist. Nobody should support feminism. They SHOULD support gender equality.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Lol that goes for everyone ever. Why would someone want equal rights if they're in the upper/happier group? It would just make their lives worse. Everyone wants life to be better, and so they only fight for the good equalities.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Feminism is gender equality. Saying women only want equality when it's convenient for them is like saying the same for black or gay people or disabled people - that because it's convenient them ALL THE TIME. That's what "not being privileged" means; pretty much all of the time, they get delt the bad hand in life. Yes, sexism hurts all genders. But that is a symptom - the cause is pretty much always misogyny. PS- I've edited this like 20 times and I notice a new typo every time. Sorry. It's late and I'm le tired!

I think what the OP meant was that women tend to be a big fan of equal rights until it comes to, say, holding the door open for them, or paying for dinner. Most women generally think better of a man that does that and they are more likely to begin/ stay in a serious relationship if the man has "chivalry". Before someone comes in and says "BUT I DONT CARE IF THEY DO I ACTUALLY WANT EQUALITY", remember I said most women. If you don't think most women think that then your area is either very different from mine, or your'e wrong. I might be wrong here, I didn't do any research, this is just my opinion.
