I always thought it was "Nose Ghost", like you say "Nose Ghost" to summon up a humble ghost who likes to help people, but because he is a ghost, he cannot perform actions in the realm of the tangible and the living. The ghost has to possess someone to perform said action, so everyone puts his finger on his nose to make his body impenetrable to ghosts, but if someone doesn't place his finger on his nose quickly enough, the nose ghost possesses his body and forces him to perform whatever action the ghost was summoned to perform in the first place. For future pretenses, a female pronoun may be used in lieu of the male pronouns used above if you prefer it to be that way.
