+280 When teacher's say "Guys dribbling balls make 20 Million a year, we educate future leaders and make 51,000 a year" You would think "Well, those 20 Mil. Players are the BEST, and you're a random teacher. If you were known as the BEST professor at Oxford or Yale, you'd make a LOT more. You, however, are the equivalent of a normal adult player, making-i don't know- 51,000 A YEAR - maybe?", amirite?

Do you really think that even the best teachers at oxford or yale or wherever make anywhere near 20 million a year?

Yeah, a random basketball player will make more than a random teacher.... Over all basketball players get paid a lot more. You can't even compare the two, the worst basketball player makes more than the best teacher ever will Basketball players average salary http://www.insidehoops.com/nbasalaries.shtml Teachers average salary http://www.payscale.com/research/US/All_K-12_Teachers/Salary

Yes i see how i'm inaccurate, but the point i was trying to make is that the teachers who complain like this are the lower ones who aren't teaching the best, while they are comparing themselves to the best in another field. and they shouldn't state that they "EDUCATE" future leaders so strongly. they teach them basic and general knowledge. professors are the ones who EDUCATE. and they should also take into account they "EDUCATE" future criminals and serial killers. so yeah, it cancels out. its just that the quote really bugs me, thats all.

Sorry teachers but millions of people don't pay money to go and watch you teach... and they don't get paid that well cause they are "the best"...they get paid millions cause tons of people spend money on tickets to see the game. If everyone stopped seeing games live and just watched them on TV, those players could say goodbye to their million dollar contracts.

Education versus entertainment - Which do you think SHOULD be worth more?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think athletes are overpaid, and some teachers just complain too much. However, I know some teachers that deserve to complain but don't. My crappy history teacher makes $90,000 a year for teacher 4-5 classes a day [only 45 min each] and coaching one or two teams. Plus, those 4-5 classes are honors/AP, so we're good students. But my unfortunate Spanish teacher, who is a wonderful teacher, makes less than $50,000 and we've all done really well in his class. /rant

I do wish teachers were paid more but athletes (and celebrities) aren't overpaid. Entertainment is a profitable industry, they deserve the money.
