+702 When a character is supposed to be 17 and they get an actor thats 25 to play them it is so annoying. Why cant they get a person of that age to play them, it would look so much better. amirite?

There are a lot of reasons someone older might be cast. It's actually a smarter thing to do. Older actors generally have more experience, they're out of school so they don't have anything getting in the way of rehearsal/filming, they won't get any older so you don't have to worry about their appearance changing, the older actor might fit the part better than a younger actor... not to mention there's a lot of favoritism. For example, the Sherlock Holmes film that came out in 2009 was originally going to be about a younger Sherlock Holmes, but when they decided to cast Robert Downey Jr. the role was tweaked. Not to mention how Tim Burton is constantly casting Johnny Depp in roles younger actors could do just as well, because they're buddies.

I don't want teenagers cluttering up primetime TV...actors in their 20s have more experience and education.

Let's say I'm casting Glee. The male part I'm casting is 16 years old. I cast Justin Bieber, because he's a great singer (keep in mind this is hypothetical). We're recording in the studio and, OH NO! His voice has cracked! If only I had hired someone older..

me, i do want teenagers "cluttering up" TV...it's more real, and it's a different perspective we so rarely see on television/movies. just because the actors are 20-something definitely does not mean they're good at what they do. and, older actors without the physical awkwardness of teenagers are the ones who set those high standards for teenagers--they're one of the biggest reasons teenagers have lots of insecurities when it comes to looks.

I couldn't agree more.

tv makes you lose like 10 years. i think that the actors that play the kids on glee look their characters ages.

it has to do with work hours and child labor laws and the acting union and its more expensive to have actors under 18, and there's much more paperwork and its much more complicated than youd think. its also very costly.

dude the guy who plays miley's older brother ( jackson or sumthing) is like 30 i think...hecka creepy

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think its creepy too. He does look younger than 30 though, so I guess it works

Well every teenager hates famous teens,so the show wouldn't get the ratings it deserved.

oh, the jealousy

this is a repeat

Because the kids around that age can't fucking act

Well another reason is simply because adult actors are of age. For parts in movies where they drink, have sexual scenes, and what not, it's a lot easier (legal wise) to have an older actor rather than a sixteen-year-old. Think about it; do you really think a TV or movie is going to broadcast a teenager drinking --even though it's fake. I doubt it. However, I do believe casting agencies should get people who actually look the age.
