Last year for drama class I had to write a paragraph on what my definition of acting is. I said that acting is when you're lying to a group of people who are completely aware of the fact that you're lying. Your job is not to convince them that you're telling the truth, but to make them forget you were ever lying in the first place.

But I still agree with the other comments. The best actors don't have to lie, because they can put so much truth into their performance. Okay, I'm done being all philosophical now.

We love professional actors because they DO convey truth.
Bad acting is lying.

It's not a lie to the character. It's only a lie if the actor does not commit to their role.
