+322 When someone says "you know, highschool relationships don't last forever" well, what I want to say is "a relationship is about the people in it, no matter the age", amirite?

That's exactly the point - why most high school relationships don't last. Because the people in it are unsure of who they are and what they want, are not willing to be as selfless as a relationship requires, and because soon, life will take those two people in completely separate ways. Generally speaking.

I know of this old couple happily married living down the street. They have been a couple since they were 14 years old.

HAHA that sounds like my fiancée and I, we started dating in Jr. High School (little kid relationship) at 14 and now were in our 20's and couldn't be happier!

Most of the time they are superficial and half-assed. Fortunately, there are some couples who break the stereotype.

But it doesn't matter if it lasts forever, if it does, good. If it doesn't, then that's fine too. The point of it is probably just to have fun, it doesn't really matter or anything until you're like an adult, and then that's just if you want to have a partner and/or kids.

No relationship lasts forever. Every single relationship ends in either a break up or death.

I think what they're saying is more like teens frequently aren't mature enough to handle the responsibility of being true and loyal to someone all the time. Some are. But a lot aren't.
