The post didn't say anything about whether it was a sport or not. I'm in marching band and personally don't think it's a sport, while football is. However, it does take a lot of effort and is the most fun you can have with pants on.

No, band is not a sport. it may be hard, but not in the same way as an ACTUAL sport, such as football or track is. Also, it is not fun to watch at all.

Marching band definitely isn't a sport (I'm in marching band myself), and neither is cheerleading, but it is a very physical activity that is great to be a part of and to watch.

Fuck that. Football requires more skill than walking, and blowing/hitting an instrument. Plus, they don't have guitars in marching bands. Total downside.

Football only requires skill if you're the QB. Other wise you're just catching a ball and running, or smashing into the other team fo the most part... Obviously there are lots of plays to remember and such, but it's definitely not the mist technical sport out there.

Nice generalization from someone who doesn't play football. Every position requires skill and talent. It is extremely technical. Do you think a receiver will run the same route if there's a blitz coming or its a cover 2 versus and cover 3? Do you think they run blindly into a defense and hope they don't get hit? What about safeties? They have to watch the whole field and the quarterback's eyes. Do you think it's easy to run a 4.4 40? Does the runningback need to see holes in the defense? And it's fucking hard to hit people and keep going. Shut the fuck up.

Thanks for replying with dignity and reserve. For all you know I could have played football all of my life and just think it's a stupid game. OR maybe I was being sarcastic and made a witty comment that fits with this post because the idea of claiming one activity is better than the other. Maybe I'm just a prick. Who knows? You're jumping to a lot of conclusions however. And my response was to someone doing the exact same thing, just so you know and can figure out which kne it actually was.

Actually, even the lineman have to remember quite a lot. Everyone playing does. It's not just the QB. It's not just "catching a ball, running, or smashing into the other team". I realize it's hard not to be ignorant, but at least try not to be. EVERYONE playing has to remember up to at least 10 different plays, each having variations, and then different formations, different routes, different blocking, different ways to run the ball. Also you learn penalties along the way. It's definitely not simple

I didn't say it was simple, and I wasn't trying to demean it, nor was I promoting band, I just meant that people take things way too seriously about how difficult their sport was. Looking back I realize I phrased it rather arrogantly, and would like to apologize, for that was not my intention. And I realize that football is difficult, and I did mention how everyone has to know all about the game, but again, sorry for the generalizations. I didn't mean just the QB had to remember either, just that the QB has to have a lot more technical skill. Other players obviously need skill at what they are doing.

Oh, I forgot to mention, that if you don't want ignorant replies, you shouldn't post ignorant comments. Obviously football isn't easy. But this all started with you claiming how much more difficult it is than band. Just fyi, I've heard band is really hard considering everyone must walk in perfect formation while keeping time and playing well and stuff, but then again I'm just commenting off hearsay once more.

Wow. Don't give football players a bad rep here. Playing an instrument is really hard, just like football is really hard. Just because they don't require the same skill set doesn't mean either is a lesser activity.

Okay, so both band and football both require skill, and may or may not be interesting to watch, depending on the person's interests. You have to think of where you're going and who you're passing to and stuff like that for football. And you have to think of what your next set is, how many counts you have to get there, where you are in the music, and looking good for marching band. (sorry, I don't know much about football.. :P) but both activities are physically and mentally demanding, and some people are better at one or the other, and some people prefer to watch one or the other. But I don't think either are better than the other..
