There weren't enough loose ends for a direct sequel to have been very good. An extra episode about Zuko's mom would have been awesome.

Oh my god. That was the WORSE movie I've ever seen. It didn't have the tone of the shows, all of the characters were screwed up, and it was racist as well >_<. Poor Aang! They screwed him over.

(wait, whaaaaa?): Obviously you must be a kid then. Comingofage: zuko War within yourself/strong internal conflict: Zuko Duty vs saving the one you love: Aang when he willingly loses the ability to go into the avatar state Also, the war for the Fire Nation is pretty deep. And Azula going crazy, kids would think she simply went crazy, older viewers would see why, what led her down that road, etc. Power grabbing: Ozai doing away with Azulon (most likely) and casting Ursa off (who probably killed Azulon to save Zuko) The whole Ba Sing Se incident with the Jun Lee's and mind washing. Kids would have missed most of that, especially themes in Season 2 and 3, which were really dark for some episodes.

The spin-off takes place 75 years later, with the new avatar, so Aang is dead. The new avatar Korra has mastered water, earth and fire but has to master air from Tenzin, Aang and Katara's son.
