Dinner generally applies to the largest meal of the day while super is the meal of night. In previous times the largest meal of the day was lunch so generally the middle meal of the day was called dinner; but, the now that we tend to eat the largest meal of the end of the day supper is now called dinner.

My dad told me this started in farming families. They would be up so early with the sun that they would eat breakfast, then, since they woke up so early, they would eat lunch like around 9 or 10 cuz you worked the food out of your system. Dinner was around 3 or4 and then supper was like around 8 or 9. So four meals a day!

Dinner is the meal around noon. Supper is the one around dark.
