Well, not necessarily. There are plenty of performers, for example, who give their own twists on original songs and make the song even better than it was to begin with. The original was full of the original performer's talent and style, and that's what made it good, but adding a new talent and another great style just makes the song even better.

Except the original Nightmare on Elm Street. That was just crappy and not scary at all.
