+381 Australians: Everytime we see an American movie or TV show with an actor in it who is portraying an Australian, they do a bad british accent and start with "gidday" and then end every sentence with "mate" and they just have to mention a kangaroo even if it has nothing to do with what the show is about.... amirite?

Yeah Australian accents sound weird thrown in with a bunch of American accents. But Americans usually do a terrible job of impersonating us.

Don't see why americans can't go out of their way to get an Australian actor? Much more convincing..

You didn't really have to address that to Australians. We know it sucks, too.

I read somewhere that saying "Good Eye Mite" with an american accent will sound like an australian accent. Can any aussies verify this please?

I'm American, and when I say "good eye mite" it sounds like (what I think is) an Australian accent.

oh my lord most definately not!

I'm Australian, i just tried using an American accent and it seriously did sound like gday mate in an Australian accent. What annoys me the most is that the majority of the people i know wouldn't even think about saying half of the words that Americans seem to think we say all the time. I'm pretty sure I've never used 'Gday' seriously before in my life.

Wanna put a shrimp on the barbie?

It's really actually with basically any type of accent. I'm from the southern part of America, and when i hear people, or actors butchering the accent, its makes me want to smack them. They exaggerate it way to much and (maybe not for you, but for me the Texan) they make it sound like we're retarded.

Let me fix that. amirite, mate?*

Makes you cringe.

i know, seriously it annoys me when people from other countries eg US or UK impersonate an Australian and they seem to think that all we do is sit around and cook PRAWNS (we don't call them shrimp), ride kangaroos and say "G'Day, Streuth!, that's not a knife, that's a knife" etc etc and it just sounds like you have had a stroke and have been untreated as of yet.
