+373 So I take the x=9z-30 equation and I plug it into the 4x-7z=... I'm sorry, when am I going to use this? Amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Easy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's what I was going to say. z= 120/29

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Only if 4x-7z=0, but it doesn't actually say that in the post.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You kind of have to infer that from a post like this.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can't solve it they didn't give you the entire equation.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Suck it up, you're going to need it to pass, dipshit.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I really wish I could go back to math that simple :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My geometry teacher told us on the 1st day that we would never use it in our lives.. Haha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wonder this everytime I do math homework.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's easy...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, I'm going to use it because I plan on majoring in Mathematics in college.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If for nothing else, Mathematics is a subject that teaches you how to solve problems in a logical manner. You use the tools at your disposal to move from a situation where you have a definite answer. So, unless you plan on being a vegetable in the middle of the desert, you're going to use this skill daily. And, people who've mastered the skill of problem run countries, companies, secret societies, etc. Idiot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, people who went to college and studied for what they wanted to be run those companies. For example if i wanna be a lawyer does that mean that i'll need to know some that equation to run the company? No.I will never use it.And and you can't teach someone to solve problems in a logical manner after 8th grade.Either they formed that way or they didn't.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Clearly you did not.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's the best trolling you got?I'm slightly disappointed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you're missing the point. The idea here is to teach problem-solving in a structured and consistent manner. The equation and content of the maths is irrelevent. For example, if you're a lawyer, a client comes in with a problem (find x when x = 1 + 1). In maths, you break down the equation into pieces and try simplify the problem given the tools you have to reach x=. You know what 1 represents and you know what + means, so you use the tools at your disposal to solve a problem in a logical manner. In the law problem, you do the same thing to reach a final conclusion. You use this ALL the time. Maths just tries to teach you to do the same for complex problems.

I know what you're trying to say what i don't understand is why I have to learn 10 thousand formulas and 10 thousand types of exercise which i won't use.Sure i agree to math to a certain degree but to be treated as one of the most important classes?Just no.I can't stand learning so much pointless shit just to form a better way of thinking.Cause at the end of day you just learn a formula and apply it.For example i will never need to know 4^15 (as my math teacher thinks you need to know all the powers to 15 at least for all numbers under 12 including for you to be successful in life- she never fails to mention this.Come to think of it she tells us we need to know everything she teaches for us not to be and i quote 'Complete failures in life'.And that just makes me stab her and yell 'NO BITCH')

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Point made. To be honest with you, I can't remember how to do long division. Used to be a star at it. However I still use the same process of identifying a problem and applying the correct tool to solve it (and I have to know that process inside-out as I do that for a living as a consultant). What's pissing you off is the content and I agree, it's tedious. All I'm saying is just look at the bigger picture.

In your maths test next week. In the majority of other maths tests for the rest of your life

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hey there.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what's it like in new york city?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

algebra is actually useful for figuring shit out. or its taken as a given that you can do that so you can do other things to figure shit out. don't get me wrong, they teach plenty of stuff we never use, but that's not it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's easy. I wish I was still in Algebra.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you become a mathematician you will... Obviously most people aren't going to use it in their everyday lives. That's not really the point of maths.
