+306 There should be a special word for sports that aren't always considered sports, basically anything where the human doesn't do any of the actual work, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wouldn't you just call that a game?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

nascar isnt a game . non-competitive cheerleading isnt a game .

Dammit, what... did they have special ed night last night for the mods? How is this homepage material?!? Games is exactly the word op is looking for... so either the mods fail, or the people on this site fail for not seeing that it was homepaged as fail and upvoting it. >.< it's too early in the morning for this idiocy.

Most people wouldn't call NASCAR a game, but it's not a sport either because instead of people running, cars move for them. It would be good if there was an in between word.

e-sports?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

like cheerleading. it's not technacly a sport.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, the human still does all of the work and technically one team wins and the other loses. It also can be physically exhausting. I call that a sport.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hmm... but only in competitive cheerleading. I'm talking about the preppy girls who just wave their pompoms in the air and yell things at the football players.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'll admit, some football cheerleaders are like that, and others actually work. It really depend on the level (highschool, colledge, pro) and the team itself.

Ping pong. No offense to ping pong players, but unless you're a hardcore champion or something, it doesn't really look like you're doing much.

i believe the "human" reference has something to do with horseback riding. unless you've done it and i mean ridden around a jumping course or done barrel racing or any equestrian decipline really. i wouldn't start bashing someone elses sport.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I ride horses and it's actually very strenuous. You have to pretty much control another animal!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree. It's very physically challenging to move a thousand pound animal the way you want it to move, particularly without falling off. The effort and risk are real, so it's a real sport. HOWEVER, the OP didn't specifically say anything about horse-back riders, and so I don't feel like I have the right to bash him, even if the post could be interpreted that way.
