Why on earth wouldn't you want to have a crush on someone?

You could know that it would lead to nothing. You could know that having a crush on that certain person is stupid. Then, you know that the crush is pointless, but yet you can't help liking that one person.

There are plenty of ways a crush can lead to nothing. For example, they could be in a long committed relationship or could be moving far away.

Or they could be ridiculously out of your league.

They could be in love with someone else. They could not like your gender in that way. They could be an asshole who would only hurt you. They could be a bitch who would only cheat on you. They could be way older or younger than you. There's lots of reasons not to like someone.

I have a crush on a freshman who doesn't even like me and I'm a senior. This is stupid.
