First, before I say anything else, murder, rape and molestation are not acceptable things IN THE LEAST no matter WHAT age the victim is. There are no words in the english language that can truly describe how awful it is for someone to kill or violate someone of any age and I agree that the sick bastards that do it should face the worst punishment the law will allow. That being said, as someone else said, not all pedophiles would ever do anything to harm a child. You can't really help who/what you're sexually attracted to, so the lone trait of being attracted to ANYTHING should not be punishable. Second, if innocent people can be put to death for murders they didn't commit, then you can be damn sure that innocent people would be forced to wear these letters.

Let me tell you a story. I have a friend who has a story I think about whenever child safety stuff like this comes up. He was a teacher at a local highschool. I think he taught computer sciences or something. Anyway, one day it came out that a girl accused him of touching her inappropriately, and he was subsequently suspended from his job. A court case was opened, and he was found guilty; despite his declared innocence. He lost his job, and floated around for awhile, eventually falling on alcohol as a relief. Later, witnesses stepped forward, proving his innocence. They said my friend the teacher was failing the girl in his class, and she tried to blackmail him into passing her. He refused, and she went and told school officials he had touched her. While his status as sexual offended was removed, and a formal apology made, he is still out of work. I understand that shit like that happens, but you can't compare the horrible, tortuous deaths of some 6 million innocent people to rapists. The Jews didn't deserve any of what happened. Rapists violate people and their rights, therefore (in my opinion, anyway) giving up their right to life.

Ugh, I'm so tired of the "18 year old with a 17 year old" illustrative story; I bet that almost never happens. In most states, nothing COULD happen. But when that 18 year old is fucking a 15 year old(or younger!), they're a goddamn molester and deserve to be prosecuted, punished, labeled, and shamed.

I am in NO WAY defending a rapist or a molester but the organist at out church is a convicted sex offender because when he was 19 he was caught having sex with his 17 year old girlfriend. Now how would that be fair to him to punish him for the rest of his life for something that was not morally wrong?
