+80 Why does a baby's age begin once he or she is born? Shouldn't the kids already be nine months old since they're technically living organisms in the womb? amirite?

Yes, let's celebrate little Timmy's Conceptionday tomorrow!

by Anonymous 14 years ago

exactly. they're called birthdays for a reason.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Ha. That would be awkward. Congratulations Timmy, your parents had sex on this day! Hello traumatized Timmy.

That day would be a little more of a day for your parents to remember *wink*. Sorry for the mental image.

There was some news article, I dunno whether it was real or not, but some bloke in the states who was 20 years old, abortion was made illegal in his state, because the courts ruled that life begined at conception, so he went round to all the pubs saying that he should be allowed to drink, because according to the courts, he was technically 9 months older, making him 21.

I love my country. But I think abortion is "legal" in every state. It can't be completely banned by any state. I think they'd have to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Ah, might've been a made up story then.

Still funny. Sounds just like something someone would do.

I dont know if this is true or not, but I heard that in China, they do count ages that way.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, they start at 1 when the baby is born i think.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ah I see. So they're born as 1 year olds?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think it's because they consider it the baby's first birthday, if that makes sense. So in China they celebrate the baby's second birthday a year after it is born--it's technically only one year old, but it's had two birthdays. (That's just speculation. I don't know this for a fact...)
