I spent a lot of years at parties that were at my house when my parents were gone or at my friend's houses when their parents were gone.

Ive thrown parties that have lasted anywhere from 4 hours to 3 and a half days.. Idk about years tho...

Actually, this happens all of the time. I know a myriad of people who have hosted parties while their parents were gone.

Because then YOU would have to clean up the mess and bury all the dead bodies and everything all on your own. Because God knows once the party's over everyone will be long gone before you can even get your hung-over ass out of bed the next afternoon, let alone get the brooms, shovels, garbage bags and other cleaning supplies together. Not that I speak from experience or anything...
