+578 It sucks when someone decides to smoke right next to you, even if you respect their decision to smoke it's not fair for them to rot your lungs if you don't, amirite?

it's a free country. i agree unless you have to sit next to them. then yeah it comes to courtesy there.

Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should do it

Can't you just move away?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's what I was gonna say, you have legs, walk away from us.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You could always politely ask us to move, or move away yourself. Although most smokers have the courtesy to not smoke near non smokers, or at least ask if it's ok

Just because you stood next to a smoker once doesn’t mean your lungs will shrivel up and you die of cancer. If you just don’t like how the smell or having a coughing fit, then move away.

I understand about just walking away, but I meant this in a more general sense. My dad used to smoke in the house all the time for years, and I always hated it, and no matter where I went the smoke was there, and I worry from time to time that the years of exposure damaged my lungs.

As a smoker, out of common courtesy and politeness, I won't do around people who don't smoke. Basically, in a social sense, the right to be able to breath freely in a public space surpasses the right to smoke.

IMO, I think it's rude to smoke around other people. I have no problem with people that want to smoke, they can do what they want. It's just that smoking around other people DOES affect them, and it could cause some problems. There are designated smoking areas/some buildings that allow it.

You have two feet and a heartbeat. Leave.

I usually just *happen* to have a huge coughing fit when that happens. Just because they wanna kill themselves doesn't mean i should have to breathe in the poisonous chemicals they're breathing. Thanks to smokers who have that courtesy instinct...

To all smokers out there, My dad smoked for 34 years, he was diagnosed with non-curgical small cell cancer, the worst lung cancer out there. Twice. Ever since then his voice became very deep, his teeth are permanently yellow and due to the treatment his right lung is almost completly useless, his esophagus had to be removed since a fistula(a hole) formed in there, he suffered from spasms that left him uncounsious,he lost all his hair, and due to the cirgury he can't feel anything on his back. He is forever as fragile as a newborn child. Quit smoking.

IMO shut the fuck up and get away from me if I wanna smoke I'll smoke wherever the fuck I want. Except near children and 5 meters from the doorway, my two exceptions.
