+148 Being a good musician doesn't mean you have to play all the notes perfectly. Being a good musician means being able to catch up when you miss a note, amirite?

Definitely. I consider singers musicians (at least those who read music, take the time to learn theory, sight-singing, etc). Some don't realize that it's not only about having a great voice. That is important, but you have to have "musicianship" as well. It's like the people in chorus that have great voices but refuse to blend. Different rules apply in solo singing/ playing, but still.

There's more to being a good musician than being able to catch up when you miss notes. Notes are just notes unless you add expression - and without some sort of expression, music can barely be classified as music.

Eh, it's not that hard to catch up, given that there is a conductor present. Any idiot, with practice, could learn to follow the conductor and catch up any time. It doesn't make them a good musician. But playing the right notes doesn't make him one either. There's much more to music than notes, you know.

This is completely a metaphor for life.
