If it were not for Thomas Edison, we would all be watching television in the dark, amirite?
by Anonymous11 years ago
Gosh, imagine trying to find the remote with no light...thank God for Edison. The BEST American president ever.

SOOO True! Im glad someone else agrees!

I'm sure I'm misunderstanding this post, but Edison pioneered the use of DC current, which is how televisions work... Do I not get the joke?

You do not get the joke.

Help me out.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Not sure if possible...

I first understood it as "Without Thomas Edison, we wouldn't have light bulbs, but so what, we have tons of other electronics." But that doesn't really make sense, as I already said. Was that not the point?
by Anonymous11 years ago
That's pretty much the joke. Thomas Edison was responsible for the electricity behind both light and television, but the post doesn't acknowledge the latter.
Now that I'm explaining it, it doesn't seem too funny anymore.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Sorry if I ruined it. But bringing up the latter seemed kind of important.
Also I was just commenting about Edison on a different post when I saw this, so I was still in that mindset.

If not for Nikola Tesla, poor Thomas Edison would have no one to steal ideas from!
by Anonymous11 years ago
Exactly what I came to say. +1 good sir.
by Anonymous11 years ago
I think if not by Edison, the lightbulb would still have been invented by someone else, years ago.
by Anonymous11 years ago
WOOOSH
by Anonymous11 years ago
Ahem, Tesla.
by Anonymous11 years ago
While Tesla actually invented the lightbulb, and Edison did take the idea from him, Edison was the first to commercialize it. So without Edison, the commercializaton of the lightbulb would not have been. Granted, someone would have been bound to come along at some point and do it, maybe even Tesla, but Edison was at it first.

You can't commercialize something if isn't first invented.
