+520 Definition of a teacher: Someone who works 180 days a year and complains about being underpaid, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They don't get paid uring summer.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Technically They do. At least here in Colorado they do. The school district pays the teachers the same amount every month of the year

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No. Both my parents are/were teachers. They don't get paid for summers. They are only paid for the days they work and the total amount of money earned from those work days is divided up and distributed evenly throughout the 12 months. If they did get paid for summer they would make much more money a month than they currently do.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's exactly what I said. They still receive a paycheck over the summer so they are still paid. I probably should have been more clear.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You must be 14 years old saying stupid shit like this.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You obviously don't know how much teachers are paid, or how many days they work.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Take a joke. I love teachers, actually, and I really appreciate what they do; I just hate when they bitch about being underpaid all the time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They are underpaid, so they have every right to complain. Both of my parents are teachers, and trust me, we've had to pinch pennies my entire life. And they do work 180 school days, but they also work summers, holidays, after hours, before school starts, and during their free time during the day. So don't start talking about things you don't understand.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly, my parents are teachers as well and you just said exactly what I was about to. :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Teachers do have to do work during school holidays.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I only dislike it when they're a bad teacher, because them I'm like, "Wow, seriously? You are the laziest teacher ever. Shut the fuck up."And it's only the bad teachers that complain, all the good ones never say anything :l

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have fabulous teachers that legitimately get underpaid and don't complain, but one of my teachers makes over $100,000 a year and was complaining about not having a long enough break, even though he gets summer break, winter break, spring break, etc. etc.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

teachers are the ones who can determine the rest of your life. if you get a good elementary-middle-hs education and grades you can go to a better college and get a better job/more money. its disgusting how important and integral they are to all of our lives, but get the salaries they do...and aren't appreciated by the ones whose lives they're changing :/ nice s/n!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are two kinds of teachers: Awesome ones who are grossly underpaid and lazy ones who went into teaching because they didn't know what else to do and are grossly overpaid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most of them do spend holiday days working.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

where i live the teachers are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy overpaid and it pisses me off

by Anonymous 13 years ago

alright how the hell do you "overpay" a teacher? If you think about what they actually do not only for you but for society as a whole, they should arguably the richest people in America. Without education the whole world would be a madhouse with no medicine, technology, etc. Come on. Get some perspective.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They work half the year and teach the same thing every year. (usually) Of course it's an important job just like many other jobs but where I am they get paid too much for someone wrking half the year...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My teachers aren't underpaid, and they don't complain. My school also isn't tax-funded, and that makes all the difference. However, what most people don't understand is that teachers can either choose a ten month or twelve month payroll. Either they get paid only for the months they work, or they get paid year round, but less every time. It's all personal preference.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They also get tenure, which makes absolutely no sense for anyone other than college professors.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hey um, who taught you what those words meant and how to put them together in a way that makes lots of sense? A TEACHER. respect, alright?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm pretty sure I would gladly take any teacher's place and grade the papers and stuff, then actually do all the work.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha, try being a teachers aid and grade their papers for them. The students horrible spelling, grammar, and handwriting alone are probably enough to make you want to kill yourself. Now try grading 150 of those shitty papers. Not so much fun. lol.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah I'm a Teachers aid right now during my free period.. deciphering math papers is hell to get through.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am a teacher. We plan lessons before the day starts, we stay after to help lazy students or students who don't understand what we're teaching them, we go to meetings to make your learning experience better, we grade papers and homework and tests at home, we think of activities that will keep students interested, we have to renew our licenses every 5 years by either creating curriculum or taking 6 college credits, we put up with your disrespect and awful grammar/spelling and some marriages are ruined because teachers love their jobs so much. A good teacher never goes into the profession for money, but instead to teach the uninformed. Without out us you would know nothing. You would never advance. So, shut up. Every once and awhile we go get to complain about the fact that we generally will never break the 6 figure mark without extensive training busting our asses for kids who show no respect.

(Brett): Ahem, I'm attending a University, not a community college, and will be receiving my masters in teaching. I want to teach to change people's lives. So get your shit straight before assuming all teachers attend community college and were too lazy to try for another career.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Teachers actually work more than 180 days a year, they put in a lot of time and effort to make the course they are teaching better.A lot of the things they do for the students, they pay for out of their own pockets, and they also have summer jobs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can't spell "underpaid" without "derp."
