+508 It seems stupid that America has to be difficult and use "pounds" and "feet". Why can't we just use the metric system like everybody else! It's so much freaking easier! amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well we tried converting from gallons to liters once, it was a nightmare.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If everyone used the metric system, we wouldn't need to convert anything from gallons to liters. But I see your point.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I hate the metric system and I live in Canada. Most of the people I know use pounds and feet too.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Same...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Im not really sure why your comment was voted down just because you dont like the metric system...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i knoww haha clearly i'm not allowed to have an opinion

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The metric system makes more sense, so yes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It would cost too much to change all of the signs and stuff like that

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you forgot slugs

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I HATE THE METRIC SYSTEM AND IF WE CHANGE TO IT I WILL BE SO MADE AND I MIGHT SLAP OBAMA IN THE FACE.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But the metric system is so much easier. It's based on tens and hundreds so it's really easy to calculate. Feet, miles and pounds is just totally random. I mean, who decided on 5280 feet in a mile? It's so specific.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why would you slap Obama? If you slap Obama, then you should also say you want to slap Reagan because he tried to get the country to go metric. And make ketchup a vegetable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It would be a good idea, but a lot of people might not be able to handle it..plus it would cost a lot. I do agree though, it's much easier.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It hard for you to use pounds and feet.(but realllyyy easy for us) but it's easy for you to use metric.but really confusing for us..it's just how we grew up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, but we are the only country in the world that doesn't use metric. It's really not that hard to learn, it's all base tens. If we started teaching it in schools instead of American standard units, then it would eventually switch over. unfortunately its expensive to do so.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Canadians (Read:me) Use both feet and meters, but we use mostly pounds for weight.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do you know why we are the only country that doesn't use metric?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do you know why we are the only country that doesn't use metric?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, we're not the only country that doesn't use metric. We're just one of the few.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Apparently we did, but the media and marketing industries refused to change. Well, this is just according to my chem teacher, so I wouldn't know for sure.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Americans have to use metrics in science and math classes anyways...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Life(:): I did in both, if the problem/lab was made by my professor. If it came from the book, though, usually still in customary system. As such, I can use both pretty well. However, alllwaaayys used celcius in chem.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well actually, the US did try to convert to the metric system back a few decades ago, but that never really gained any traction as nobody really wanted the switch. And before around 30 years ago, Canada used our English system.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Go ahead, spend millions of dollars to change hundreds of thousands of road signs, car speedometers, maps, mile markers, etc to the metric system. SO easy. It's not like we're a couple billion dollars in debt or anything...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its trillions of dollars actually. We still haven't paid off our WWII debts.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

With road signs, you could patch over the old standard distance with metric. That's what Nova Scotia did back in the '70s when Canada switched to metric. There are even still a few patched signs remaining today.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The United States is a bit bigger than Nova Scotia...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But not Canada...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most of Canada's population is clustered in the south. Besides, America probably has some kind of religious cult devoted to not using the metric system.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're correct on that, which is why America won't switch. Although they did try to switch some 30 years ago.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

America: If there is some way to sound stupid, at least one person here will do it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We can't change. But it's annoying. And in my head I was thinking pounds as in money.... "We don't use pounds! We use dollars!!!! ...Oh. Wait.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The metric system is easier for you because that's what you've used. Standard is easier for us because we've used it. @769914 haha I was thinking money too! I was like well I don't know about other places but umm here in mississippi we use dollars..OH weight...oops.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, the metric system is more rational. 1 kilometer = 1000 meters. 1 mile = 5280 feet.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know this is going to sound ignorant/arrogant But... Its like trying to get europe to change from euros to dollars. Its part of the country... Like a culture. Just get used to it. If americans don't want to use the metric system in america- hell, its america. Let them do what they want with their country what they please

by Anonymous 13 years ago

thank you. I quite like using feet.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ok? That doesn't always make it easier. When you grow up always knowing one thing and then they just go and change it to something different that's a little difficult.
