False, Mercator projection maps, the most common type, distort the size of areas near the poles, but keep their shape, which makes locations close to the poles appear much larger than locations further from the poles.

How big does Greenland look on your map? About the size of Africa, right? Greenland is 14 times smaller than Africa.
