It's not a literal meaning. Hes not saying he doesn't believe the Beatles ever existed, he's saying the Beatles are over he's just John Lennon now, no more, no less.

A good example would be the people who go to American Idol auditions and sing like crap, and they believe that they can seriously win the competition. Don't get me wrong, its good to believe in yourself, but sometimes its better to be realistic.
