+830 What the heck is § for? And why do Apple feel it's so important it needs its own key on the keyboard, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It looks like the dollar sign from "The Sims".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's exactly what I thought

by Anonymous 13 years ago

dam you i was just about to comment something like that =( lol "simoleons"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That is exactly what I was thinking. They're called "simoleons", btw. [/nerdiness]

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ahh I remember now. I haven't played that game in years. :) I remember I would do the "rosebud" thing and put something heavy-ish (like a stapler or something) on the enter key, and then leave the room for like a half hour. xD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ah, rosebud. XD Saved my life so many times.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You just brought back great memories :) I was so addicted to that game.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was too. xD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i still am :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

it actually is. and they are called "simoleons".

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I have an Apple keyboard. Could someone show me where this key is?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

same, i dont have it on my keyboard and i have a macbook pro

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i think the key he is referring to is the command key:)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

§ is the section sign. Usually see it when you're looking at documents, like legal stuff. "p 39" means "page 39," so "§ 2" is like saying "section 2."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's probably useful for all of the aspiring scriptwriters who buy Macbooks and use them in the middle of Starbucks.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ALT + 0167 on a PC = § not a just a mac thing. try a "lawyer" thing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lucky, i gotta make it using the alt+numpad § alt+789= §

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lucky I don't have a numberpad, so I am forced to copy paste things from the web alt+789= (It's supposed to be blank)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

laptop?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah. Wait, does anyone even have a desktop anymore? I thought there were pretty much non-existent. However, they are better performance for the cash; I wish I had invested in one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

we have one in the next room

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Try a school computer lab.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know. I have, I was just saying I don't own one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I use my desktop whenever possible. I prefer it to the laptop. So much easier for a lot of typing, and a lot more comfortable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah. But, for a sole computer, you almost have to have a laptop just for the portability.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thats very true. I'm definitely glad we have one of each in our household.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm embarrassed at how many laptops my family has. And not one desktop ='(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know right, we have 5 freaking laptops and no desktop..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My family has 8. That is only one per person, but it's still too many. Of course, two are utter crap, two me and my older bro bought with our own money, and two are my parents', so that leaves two that are communal.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Many gamers use desktops because they're usually better for gaming. I myself have a MacBook Pro, but my mom has two desktops.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dude, it's obviously a Simoleon

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lol, how is that Apple's own key? But yeah, I thought of Simoleans from The Sims as well. Motherlode cheat, ftw. B]

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that's not what he said. he said "why does apple feel it's so important that it needs its own key?" as in, why do they think that symbol deserves a key on the computer when it's rarely used. The wording is a tad tricky. I misread it the first time, too.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(/sarcasm): Oh okay, that makes more sense. Thanks.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh, and I think Apple's key would be . ;P Option + Shift + K on a Mac. I wonder if the same combination produces a Windows flag on a PC.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why does* hehehe I corrected Anthony

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh, aren't you awesome?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

did you correct Anthony?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...it's odd that everyone says "Simoleon", but Macs get the software for Sims AFTER PC's. I guess they just need to feel more special?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what? that really didn't make sense. Of course macs got it after PCs...Macs aren't gaming computers. Macs are lucky they got Sims on their platform at all, since about 75% of games only have a PC version (slight exaggeration? probably. lol) Of course PC games will be priority...?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(/sarcasm): Since some of the people were commenting that Macs have the symbol used for Simoleons, I was joking that it was probably because Macs needed to feel more special because the Sims games were converted to play on Macs after PC's got the game in the first place...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, what is this:  for? To brag to the rest of the world that I have a Mac?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i really don't know, but i know that theres a way to make a windows flag though.... idk how, i've got a mac

by Anonymous 13 years ago

apple gets its own key cuz they're just that cool:)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

 Haha, that's so cool!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can make tons of symbols using option + any key Ω∑†¥ and so on ≠±¿÷ Oooh… I'm so entertained lol.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_sign well

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Mind = Blown. LOL jk I'm not from MLIA.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

§

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what is the rosebud cheat for?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's the Section sign. It's used with the paragraphs and stuff. But it does seem stupid that it has it's own key.
