+160 Teachers always want you to look at them while they are speaking, but when you make eye contact with them it gets awkward, amirite?

I've never understood why teachers insist you look at them. Personally I find it easier to concentrate on what someone is saying when I'm just listening and not looking. At my old school, we had an outdoor assembly where we were all sitting in the quad. There wasn't enough space for me to sit properly cross-legged and the only way I could sit without my stupid uniform skirt lifting up was facing the right, while the people speaking were in the front. I was still listening and not being a nuisance. One of the teachers standing on the side told me to turn around and face the front. I turned about 3cm, gave them an "are you fucking serious?" look and mouthed "I can't". It still bothers me. As if they couldn't see that I had no space to turn around in.
