+180 It’s stupid when people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Fucking right I do! What good is a cake if you can't eat it, amirite?

Oh my gosh, why was this voted down? I say this all the time! I know that it's not the right meaning of the saying, but really why in the world would you or myself have a cake and not eat it? Even if I plan on giving someone a cake, I still plan on getting a slice, DUH. Just saying.

Man I used to HATE this saying because it made no sense to me. Then I figured out it makes more sense if you switch it around: you want to eat your cake and have it too. The saying refers to the fact you want to both reap the benefits of something (eating it), but not lose it (having it), when you can't have it both ways. The day I had that epiphany was like reaching enlightenment, that saying had just bothered me for so long. EDIT: Perhaps the saying should be "you want to eat your cake but keep it too"? That sounds a little less confusing, imo.

I know it's just a figure of speech, but it isn't a very good one.
