+234 Prostitution definitely isn't a good thing, but when you really think about it, why is it completely illegal? amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's too hard for the government to regulate it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

True, but that's still not a good reason. Short term, yeah, it would be difficult, but it would be way easier to regulate long term if there were set guidelines that brothels had to follow.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh, I know it would ultimately be better for them to regulate it. That way their would be fewer STDs and such passed along, but they probably dont want to spend the money to get it started.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Totally. Because it wouldn't be a move that would get much support - there would be far too much opposition from people who are against it altogether, so governments would rather give the appearance they are dealing with "family friendly" issues.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So true, the government won't do anything that will seem controversial, when in reality it would only serve to benefit people.

@716182 (SimonBrisbane): I enjoyed reading this conversation. (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's legal in Holland. And I know here in Australia there are some legal brothels.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Probably because of the huge risk of an outbreak of untreatable STDs or AIDS.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think it's something that most people feel is so immoral that we need to keep it from entering into society

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Prostitution is legal in Las Vegas to an extent. You have to do it through places like The Bunny Ranch and get tested regularly.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's legal in parts of Nevada, but I actually think it's illegal in Clark County, NV, where Vegas is.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not going to press either button, because I disagree with the first part (why is it wrong? that would only be reasonable if everyone was married) but agree with the second part, obviously.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't think prostitution is bad. People fuck for money. So what? Just make it an official job category and there won't be a problem. Constant STD checks and all that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Kinda agree with you. It's not really the best option, but if that's what someone is going to do, then that's their choice. At least if it were regulated by the government, the conditions they work in could be improved and it probably wouldn't be nearly as dangerous.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

As if the World Sex Trade issue isn't bad enough... Legalizing prostitutions has disastrous and catastrophic implications for the human trafficking industry. All around terrible idea, even it you disregard the basic moral principles that prostitution violates.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sorry, moral principles? Sir, morals differ between person to person. If they want to sell their bodies then let them. Who are you to say what they should and shouldn't do so long as both parties are consenting?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sadly, it isn't as simple as that. Sure, if someone WANTS to sell there body, why not. But that's not always the case. Prostitution ties right in with human trafficking. Many people are forced into prostitution. That's the problem.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well then stop that. Get more prostitutes on the market and human trafficking will lower if anything because people have access to actual prostitutes. They should know what they're getting into. If they do, then let them have at it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, because I'm sure that there are soooooo many people who want to become prostitutes.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Some have to become prostitutes. Sometimes it's the only decision. And I say let them have that decision. Even if they don't want to be a prostitute it doesn't mean they should starve, goodness.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I know, I'm just trying to say that people rarely desire to become prostitutes.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

To me it seems like a being a prostitute isn't a far cry from being a pornstar and people seem to be willing to do that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Because I believe that it is wrong, degrading, and as a whole disgusting. In addition, it would exacerbate current world problems with regards to abductions, sex slaves, and human trafficking. Finally, I subscribe to the "Natural Law" morality, which basically says that morals are universal and absolute and do NOT differ from person to person. The only thing that differs from person to person is which morals they choose to live by - all still apply.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But why should I have to live my life by your morals?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Look it up, I'm not repeating myself, you evidently lack an understanding of what I'm talking about.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

"I believe, therefore it should be." Sorry, it doesn't work like that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Nor am I saying that it does or will be like that, I'm just saying that that is how I would vote on the matter.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Then don't go into morals like it should be law. I hate flamers but I don't say they should make a law against them. I just avoid them. And who the fuck do you think you are to prevent people from fucking for money? And who the fuck do you think you are to get involved with other people's lives? Voting against it doesn't sugarcoat it. Christ you fucking conservative assholes can't leave people alone. I also noticed you're against gay marriage and abortion, and you're an atheist. Worst atheist I've ever met. Call yourself a "realist"... Christ, no.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No one's mentioned the fact that it's dangerous for the prostitutes themselves..would you feel safe being alone and completely vulnerable to a male stranger? Thousands of prostitutes are brutally murdered and abused every year, and that's an issue set apart from STDs.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If any part of it should be illegal, it should be visiting a prostitute rather than being one...
