+284 The Harry Potter series would have been totally different if it had been written in first narrative, amirite?

Would have been boring, probably.

well, boring is different too, isn't it?

Sure, but totally? It would be a retelling of the same events with some minor subjective differences. Harry doesn't have a strong enough voice to be a compelling narrator and his opinion probably wouldn't play a major role in most situations.

Well, I think there's also quite a few things that would be different regarding the events that happen. For example, the first chapter would not exist, if everything was told with Harry as a narrator. I'm horrible at explaining things XD But I think it would be rather different from the current version If it's interesting or not is another thing

Oh God, and the first chapter was the best in the whole series! "Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you'd expect to be involved with anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn't hold with such nonsense. "Mr. Dursley was the director of a firm called Grunnings, which made drills. He was a big, beefy man with hardly any neck, although he did have a very large mustache. Mrs. Dursley was thin and blonde and had nearly twice the usual amount of neck, which came in very useful as she spent much of her time craning over garden fences, spying on the neighbors." And I can't remember the next line.

Yes, but the wording of the post explicitly reads totally. To say the entire series would be completely different is obviously incorrect, regardless of your beliefs on Harry as a narrator.

What about all Harry's trips into Voldemorts head?

You're missing my point, which is that the post says the series would be totally different, when at its core most of the series would remain the same, depicting the same events but with a narrator.

Well, depends on what you see as totally The events in the series would be the same The way it's told however would differ greatly And that would make the series quite, if not totally different Stories, events, happenings, all can sound very different, it all depends on the way something is told

I see totally as meaning completely. I'm aware of the subjectivity of storytelling, but Harry's always seemed like a straight-laced kind of guy and I don't think the subjectivity would have as great an influence as in, say, Rashomon.

Okay, now replace the words "Harry Potter" with the words "Any book that isn't already in first narrative". It's not like Harry Potter has the monopoly on fiction novels.
