Heheh, you should come over to IB. Our tests over books ARE essays.

Multiple choice? It's hard to explain something without questions. For example: what's your personality? How are you supposed to explain yourself without questions like'Do you have a hobby?' or 'What is your favorite genre when it comes to books?'.

I would if I truly understood it because then, they couldn't objectively count off for as much.

Sparknote the book and bs the essay.. works everytime

I'm doing that with an essay for A Farewell to Arms. It's working really well.

I would much rather an assessment marked objectively, rather than something I could fail because someone didn't like the way I wrote it.

Your teachers must suck then because I've never heard of a teacher taking off points for not liking the way you wrote the essay.

I think essays give a lot more room for error. You don't really have to memorize every single detail of the book because it's more about what you think rather than what you remember. If you can't remember what happened during a certain scene, it's as simple as not talking about that scene.

Also, in most cases, you're allowed to refer to the book while writing the essay, so you can look up anything you don't remember.

Our books tests pretty much were essays, so I'd rather write an essay, because at least that way you're able to do multiple drafts.

Writing an essay will show how you really understood the book more than just taking a multiple choice test on it.

If I knew the book in my sleep and I was sure that I could ace both, I'd rather take a test and get it over with. But the other 99.9% of the time I'd rather write an essay because I can use Google or Sparknotes and it's easier to BS.

In hs, only quizzes on books were m.c. Tests were always essays. I was good at either, but multiple choice was less of a hassle.
